Ecdysis: in Portuguese, the process of shedding the old skin or casting off the outer cuticle that certain animal species undergo in order to grow or adapt.
Likewise, the village of Covilhã is currently undergoing an intense exchange of the “skin” or “exoskeleton” of its urban landscape, a process by which the village gradually reveals to us a collection of residues, vestiges, fragments, incompletenesses, absences, memories and testimonies of what was once its spirit. This is where my interest lies: in the attempt to organise, through what remains, its past and its future.
